David,
I have a Bush Hog brand 6 ft. finishing mower that I bought about 5 years ago. I use it a lot on about 3 or 4 acres of lawns here on our farm (we have three houses on the farm). It has been a good machine, except, it has four caster wheels on it. There are spacers on each caster that are used to control the height of the cut. I have some rough ground that I mow, and if I have the cutting height set high, there's not enough support on the shafts of the forks that the wheels are mounted in.
The shafts bend too easily. I have a friend with a large press in his shop. He straightens the shafts for me, but it's a pain to have keep having them straightened. I bought a couple of new ones, and they were something in the neighborhood of $70.00 each.
So, if you have rough ground and plan to cut the grass at a high height, be prepared for bent forks.
