I forgot to mention that here, too, scrap brought to the big yard, not smelter, will bring about the same as in your neck of the woods. What I was saying is that the yard owners buying directly will get more at the smelter per ton, and so can pay a little higher prices cutting out the small timer, also by loading up the semi, volume does make a little more profit than smaller loads. What I was told is that prices rise traditionally in the winter, about November through April.... maybe they are stockpiling, some here in sw OK do. (I am stockpiling my aluminum cans hoping the pound goes back to .60 from .40 ...LOL) As far as the subsidies, if anyone does get them it would be the metal industry/smelters, and passing some of it on ...
