I am helping a friend replace a busted transaxle (case busted and not worth rebuilding). His is a 794691 (peerless 930-057) off his model #917258682. Craftsman and other resellers want about $280. I found a MST 204-503 (says it replaces a 930-032) that looks like it will bolt right up, but has 4 forward gears vs. his previous 6. The price is right at about $65, but will he experience other problems if we go this route? I would love to see a list of compatible units regardless of gearing because the price for the actual replacement is way too high. How about a 4150-17 spicer (108854x is the AYP #) - will it work? Thanks for any help, I don't work on these much and was very surprised to see the replacement cost. I have the mechanical know-how and am doing this for free, but know parts cost has to be minimal.
