Agreed. A 314 is a 300 series Wheel Horse... I have a 1997, 314-8, 14hp Kohler manual-collarshift transmission tractor. I have the Wheel Horse single stage snow "thrower" attachment model #79360. I've found this combination works great in most snow conditions. Of course I have chains and weights on the rear wheels to help with traction. I typically have plenty of power when throwing snow; however, one just needs to be patient with the collar shift transmission during directional changes...

The only problem I have with this outfit is lifting the weight of the snow thrower attachment manually (my 314 doesn't have hydraulics). Unless you have hydraulics, you'll need some "young" muscles to lift the (I'm assuming) even heavier two stage snow blower. If you go with this combination, start pumping iron now; and, reserve a few sick days for pulled left shoulder muscles...

Based on my experience of living in New Hampshire since 1978, I'd recommend spending $1600 on a big/quality dedicated snow blower; versus, a tractor attachment. You can buy a lot of snow blower for $1600, especially in the off season. The storage space is a wash; and, you won't have to deal with mounting; and, removing the attachment in the Fall/Spring. I especially like the Honda models with track drive; but, they are a tad more expensive.

Enjoy!

Today's Featured Article - Search For Spares - by Anthony West (UK). Following on from the aquisition of the old Fordson F, I was very much in need of spares. As a novice though I didn't appreciate the fact that there were so many Fordson tractors made, that all the other makes seem rare by comparison. As far as I was aware a fordson was a fordson and it was only through trial an ... [Read Article]
