I've been toying this idea around for a couple of years now and finally started drawing up some ideas in the past 10 months. The biggest hurtle I'm encountering is price of parts and I have't even started with the sheet metal yet. Example, I was planning on making an Outfront mower with a 54, 60, 72,84, or 88" mower deck of the rear discharge arrangement. I finally settled on the Honda V-twin, Dana axle, and sunstrand hydrostat with power beyond hydraulics for power steering and aux lift. I planned on a selling price starting around $6,000 with the 54" deck, was I ever wrong, the engine, trans, and hydraulic package is $4,000 and that doesn't even include a control valve, cylinders, hand pump, or sheetmetal. I see these other brands out there and shake my head in amazement on how cheap they can sell them. I haven't given up hope yet and still plan on having something by next year, even if its for my own yard and enjoyment, then I can say I tried. Good luck with your venture.
