Look under the seat for a silver tag with model and serial numbers.
Craftsman used Tecumseh engines. Ford and Jacobson used Kohler engines mostly. Ford also used Briggs engines.
It looks like a Briggs & Stratton engine. You can use that Code off the engine to find a year and parts for the engine. Model xxxxxxx Type xxxx-xx Code YYxxxxxx YY being the year.
The transmissions are mostly Peerless for most light duty riders.
Sorry, I am taking wild guesses on who made it. Other posters will recognize the maker when they see it. My final guess is it was rebadged by Murray in the late 80s or early 90s. Higher than 8 hp engines didn't start getting used until late 90s.
