The 782 came with two different Kohler Engines.
(A) KT-17 Series I - S/N <726124
(B) KT-17 Series II - S/N 726125>
The change came at Chassis Serial Number 726124
The Series I engine had the original "splash" method of lubricating the Rod Journals, while the Series II had the improved pressurized lubrication system, The Series I had issues of going bad if it was used on hilly or sloped terrains.
Parts for the Series I are NLA from Kohler. So, if parts are to be found, they will most likely be used or Aftermarket.
Hope this helps in your decision process.
Your local Kohler Dealer would be a good place to start, then some online Kohler Dealers, and then there is always eBay.
