I never heard of an 800 being made with an 8 horse engine. I used to work for a Bolens dealer in Middletown, NY early 70s and recall swapping 8s and 10s into some 800s since they lacked power. There were two model 800s and both came new with Wisconsin S7D engines with 7 1/4 horse. The 900s came with the S8D Wisconsins with 8 1/4 horse.
If there is an exception to this - I'd like to see evidence. I've never seen one at our dealership and I've only got paperwork for two model 800s. Both are 7 1/4 horse.
They show up for sale now and then in my area of central NY. Asking price is usually in the $300 range even with a bunch of attachments. That is not counting the HD rear tiller that often brings a couple of hundred just in itself (the HD chain drive and not the cheaper worm-drive).
The newer and bigger tube frames up in the 12-14 HP range often bring a bit more as long as they have Wisconsin engines and not Tecumseh.
