I have mounted my mower deck on my 224 for the first time. Several questions have come up.
1. The lift links seem a bit long. I say this because it barely lifts the mower off the ground at all. If I set the mower wheels to cut at a higher level they would continue to touch the ground all the time and the tractor wouldnt lift high enough to get them off the ground. It doesnt look like there is an adjust ment to change the lift height. Is this normal? What am I missing here?
2. The pto clutch seems to operate backwards. It has the lever that moves up and down to engage and disengage the mower (or other front mounted attachments). If I push the lever down, the mower engages and nicely stays engaged. This is opposite of what the decal says. Up is supposed to be engaged. If I pull it up the mower stops. If I pull it up with a bit more effort the mower somewhat engages again however the engine labors and it doesnt stay engaged when I let go. I looked at what happens at the clutch itself when I do this. Pulling the lever up pulls the clutch arm towards the engine also making contact with what looks like maybe a brake. (not sure). Pushing it down moves the arm forward towards the oil cooler and it feels like theres a detent or it goes somewhat over center and therefor it stays engaged there. I've tryed to give detail about it here, unless you have worked on one of these it probably makes no sense. Sorry. Can someone give some insight here? I looked for linkage assembled backwards and don't see how that would even be possible.
3. The adjustment on the the back of the mower, does that simply level it front to back? Or what are those for?

Today's Featured Article - Madison's County - by Anthony West. Philip Madison has been a good friend of mine for quite some time. He has patiently suffered my incessant chit chat on the subject of tractors for longer than I care to remember, and on many occasions he has put himself out, dropped what ever it was he was doing, to come and lend a hand cranking handles, or loading a find onto a trailer. Although he himself has never actually owned or restored a tractor, he was always enthusiastic and always around helping with other peoples projects.
