Changing the oil in the differential (that's what I call it) may also be called a transmission or trans-axle. I need to know what kind of oil goes in it. To be clear, I dont mean the hydraulic oil which drives the tractor. Its the gearcase right under the gas tank under the seat. I'm thinking its probably 80/90 gear oil. The oil that came out of it is too milky and smelly to identify properly what kinda oil it is.
Also I have a tiller attachment for it and I'd like to service it properly as well. The cast iron case going down to the tines, what goes in there. It appears maybe theres grease in it. Should there be grease? gear oil? Does it need to be changed? This thing is pretty old. I only found a plug near the top from the side.
