The correct pn for condenser is yd-315,as far as hard starting,1st thing check that points not burned/pitted due to useing wrong value condenser, also try cleaning point contacts,my have oil/dirt on same due to oil leaking past push pin.If points burned/pitted & need replacement,a kit is avail with points, condenser, condenser clip,& terminal pn yq-12,points alone are pn yd-314.

If points prove not to be problem, try shooting a shot of gas, carb cleaner or starting fluid into carb & see if eng fires/runs,if it does problem with carb or fuel supply to same, possible causes, dirt in carb, float stuck,hi-speed needle set too lean, carb loose & sucking air at mounting gasket,plugged/restricted gas filter or weak/bad fuel pump(if eng has)bad/plugged fuel lines.

If eng fails to start when priming carb or eng only runs till prime burns off look for blown/leaking head gasket, carbon lodged between valve seat/valve not allowing valve to close, carbon buildup on valve(s) stem causeing valve(s) to stick or valve clearance may need an adj as same may be adjustable,I don't know about this as I've never worked on this mod eng, maybe one of the other guys can add some input on this.

If eng has magneto ign check that flywheel key not bent/sheared changeing ign timing, online parts list shows eng came with magneto or 12v ign.

Today's Featured Article - What Oil Should I Use? - by Francis Robinson. I keep seein this question pop up over and over again in discussion groups all over the web. As with many things there are often several right answers and a few wrong ones. Some purist I'm sure will disagree to no end with what I will tell you but most of us out here in the real world don't really care do we ? Some of them only bring their noses down out of the air long enough to look down them anyway. If you are like me you are only doing this old tractor stuff because you enjoy it. You ...
