Don't run the engine too lean as this will cause an aircooled engine to overheat. This happened on a 72 VW Super Beetle I bought in 73 with a hole burnt thru one of the pistons. Open the main jet adjusting screw on your carburetor as this will enrich the fuel mixture. If it has black smoke under load close the needle valve some. As been mentioned keep the fins clean as this will block the air flow. Hal
