The type of major you are referring to is a KFD conversion fordson major, basically used the same chassis, engine and the like but smaller back wheels, different front wheels, smaller width front axle and the whole thing was generally lower. Sounds from your description that some tinwork has been replaced, this is posible, but a KFD should have some rather large similarities with usual major, being the same with different wheels and axle. They are Quite rare, more valuable than the usual major and were released in 1952 just afetr the usual major was released. A back issue of Tractor and Machinery has a big article on them, i think it was a 2001 edition. Hope this is of some help Patrick Arnould (UK)
