The pump is driven by a gear on the back end of the camshaft. If the pump is noisey it could be something as simple as needing a thicker or thinner gasket between the pump and where it mounts on the engine. But it could be a noisey pump or one of the gears(pump or camshaft gear) going bad or loose.Could also be timeing gears on the way out.
