Sounds like you got it correct to me. If you want to add an additional control valve in the future, connect the power beyond port from the first valve to the power in port on the additional valve and then run the return port on the additional valve to the power beyond port on the adapter plate. The additional valve should be set up as open center with no power beyond port.
The only difference between the return port and power beyond port on the adapter plate is that the power beyond port can handle more flow, so the way that you have it is correct for a control valve that has a power beyond port. I have a regular open center control valve on mine with no power beyond port, so in my case I connected the return line of the valve to the power beyond port on the adapter plate and plugged the return port on the adapter plate.
