I wouldn't know a Ford 600 if it bit me, but, years ago, I worked in a garage where we had a special tool for adjusting valve lash. It was a combination socket wrench and screwdriver. The socket part would loosen the lock nut and the screwdriver part could then be used to adjust the screw. You still needed a feeler gauge to set the clearance, but the combination tool would take care of the nut and the adjusting screw.
Might not have anything to do with what you're referring to, but just a thought.
