Chris Jensen said: (quoted from post at 17:27:27 01/15/08) The hydraulic pump for this tractor is on the right rear side of the engine. The three point hydraulic lift has worked fine for years. Just started having to rev up the tractor to make it work: Oil has moisture in it as oil has a whiteish color--Where do you fill for hydraulic system: Three fill plugs--differential, transmisison, and what I think is the hydraulic fill plug--Do all three units: rearend, tran,. and hydraulic system use the same oil with a commom sump with baffles? I'm familiar with the ferguson system on my TE 20: resevoirs are full of oil--Where does one begin to check lift problems?

First, I'd get that oil changed. The fill plug for the hydraulics will be the one up under the seat. The drain plug will be the second one back from the clutch housing. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here. I'm going off the assumption that the NAA was set up similar to the 55 to 64 models in this requard.

Use NH 134 fluid or equivalent in the hydraulics.

Then lastly, I expect your pump needs a kit or a replacement. You should have the old vane style pump if it's still original. You can bleed it by removing the foremost top screw and cranking the engine until oil comes out the hole. DO NOT LET IT START!!! Replace the plug. The lift should then work until the pump loses prime again, perhaps overnight, perhaps longer. If overnight it's time for an overhaul or replacement.

Today's Featured Article - What Oil Should I Use? - by Francis Robinson. I keep seein this question pop up over and over again in discussion groups all over the web. As with many things there are often several right answers and a few wrong ones. Some purist I'm sure will disagree to no end with what I will tell you but most of us out here in the real world don't really care do we ? Some of them only bring their noses down out of the air long enough to look down them anyway. If you are like me you are only doing this old tractor stuff because you enjoy it. You ...
