Tim, Sad but true - you will need to remove the cowel around the fuel tank in order to get the steering gear box out of the tractor. The tank doesn"t need to come off as you can loosen it and lift and move it sideways to get the steering box out. It"s not a bad job really. I"ve had them out a couple of times. As for simply replacing the steering box, I don"t know why someone would say that. All the parts are readily available from this great site as well as other places. The power steering column is a little more complicated but also doable. Good luck.
