I have a 73 4500 that I have been all over about 10 times. I believe they were produced from 65-75 and wre very pop in their day. The real early ones were yellow and blue. The fluid leaking out of the trans is coming from the center of the converter. Your right if you can live with it do it, you don't want to split this machine. One word of caution, DO NOT MOVE THE SHUTTLE SHIFT WHILE THE WHEELS ARE MOVING. Again you don't want to split this machine. These machines are tough but do need tlc. Another tip is to replace the seal around the gear shift, a leaky one tends to fill the trans with water if left outside. Start by changing all the filters even the one in the power steering pump. If you have any ? about these things just e-mail me Ill tell you what ever I know
