Z-Man. The manufacturer's recommended mineral oil is GL-1. I am not familiar with GL-1 as we don't use that term in Australia.
An interpretation of GL oil grades is HERE
[quote:654855c8b8]•API Category GL-1 (inactive*) designates the type of service characteristic of manual transmissions operating under such mild conditions of low unit pressures and minimum sliding velocities, that untreated oil may be used satisfactorily. Oxidation and rust inhibitors, defoamers and pour depressants may be used to improve the characteristics of lubricants intended for this service. Friction modifiers and extreme pressure additives shall not be used.[/quote:654855c8b8]
If price is not a consideration, use a normal multi grade engine oil, maybe 10 - 30 if you are in a cold area, 20 - 40 or similar in normal climates.
[quote:654855c8b8]Sam do u mean 15w30 motor oil or what should I be looking for?[/quote:654855c8b8]
15w30 is fine for your Ferguson transmission.
Don't use heavy gear oil or hydraulic oil. The latter in particular, will damage your transmission.
The gear box, hydraulic pump and differential are all combined in and use the same oil, eight gallons from memory?
