H Fuel strainer leaks

The shut off for the fuel strainer leaks at the shaft . looks like a packing nut , . do I put an o ring in there ? Back then (1952) it must of been some sort of packing . Anyone have the parts book ? I would like to get one some day , from case . All these little things now . I want to pop this thing off soon !!!!
