The cylinder with 20 lbs. compression has a major problem as far as running this tractor now. You have more than a worn ring problem. It could be that you have a sticking valve, a bent valve, broken valve spring, a burned valve or trash under the valve at the valve seat. Take the valve cover off and determine the valve clearance on #1 cylinder. If the clearance is excessive try to determine why. This needs to be corrected before running the engine. Go to a junk yard and see if you can find an old generator bracket and this can be modified into a bracket for the alternator. Proper alignment and support at three points is important.
