The clutch was acting up today while I was mowing with my '58 Cub. When I would engage, it would chatter. After I finished mowing, I opened the hand hole in the botom and it was full of clutch facing debris. Obviously a good portion of the clutch facing had self-destructed on me. I put the tractor in the top of the barn and proceeded to dismember it in preparation for splitting. I blocked it up and split it, but I think I'll need an engine hoist to assist with rolling the front end away from the rear to service the clutch. A couple of questions: 1. Do I need the clutch service tool to dissassemble the clutch or is there another alternative? 2. Would I be better taking the clutch assembly to an IH service shop to have it re-faced? 3. The throw-out bearing appears to be shot. Is this supposed to look like a typical bearing? Does it support the shaft securely? 4. Are there any tips/secrets for putting the tractor back together? Thanks for any assistance.
