BTW, some people are talking about using a larger cylinder. The beams on engineered log splitters are speced to handle just so many tons of force. After that they will bend. Moreover, the pin height may not allow for a larger diameter cylinder. Splitter may need some modifications.
Big cylinders are a pain in the butt anyway. They take too long to cycle. Just get a big pump and get on with your life. You need a big pump to handle the slow PTO speeds if PTO shaft driven. Some of that can be offset with gearing if belt or chain drive.
