It sounds like your pump is weak and not putting out enough pressure unless you really rev the engine. Go to Northern tool or some place that has hydaulic parts and get a gage. Find a place to tap into the pressure line (there should be a port for this) and screw in the gage and see what pressure you have. A cheap hydraulic pressure gage won't cost much. Not sure what pressure the pump should make, but I would think at least 1500 psi. The 424 should easily lift a blade. I used to own one and it had no problems lifting large round hay bales and my 6 ft bush hog.
