Hi John, I assume your 826 has the German D-358 Diesel engine. I have never worked on the 6 cyl version, only the 3 and 4 cyl versions but the parts are the same except for number of cylinders.
First question, did you loosen the 3 cap screws on the injection pump drive gear? If you loosened these screws, I hope you marked the exact location, if not you will have to do a static timing on the injection pump.
If you did not loosen the cap screws then the injection pump is probably 180 degrees out of time. The pump only turns at 1/2 the engine rpm so to keep the pump in time, if the drive shaft is turned then the pump drive shaft has to be turned 2 revs to keep the timing. So to correct this problem you will have to remove the pump and turn the drive shaft 1 rev and re-install the pump.
