Several years ago, Cessna made an "in-line" valve that could be adapted to many applications. I believe they were used on several models of combines. You could install it in a "push-pull" section of the steering and then it would operate a cylinder tied to the tie rod. The valve operated on probably less than 1/8" of push or pull to feed a cylinder. I had a valve and cylinder at one time, but It's long gone. I remember one place they were used was on M-F combines in the '60s. Pumps should be easy to come by, probably Saginaws from older GM products.
I was going to put it on an Oliver tractor, but after rebuilding the steering sector, it steered easy enough I didn't need PS.
