Re: 540 PTO shaft Needed for 1486 IH in reply to Ron in Mississippi, 01-11-2010 12:02:13 My advise is to take it off the back of the tractor and take it to your local dealer or a good local tractor mechanic.That clutch return spring is wicked,if something bad happen it could hurt you very bad.Taking off the pto unit is easy.Put a clean pan under pto take out all the long bolts around it.The two short bolts leave in,but there is a short bolt in the lower left (bolt is hard to see) corner remove it the pto should come off.
