From my experiance the tappet may have been loose. I rebuild the motor on my H and ran it a lot for a month or so but never got it out and really worked it. I made a 15 mile trip taking the tractor to my grandfathers and when I was about a mile from his house I had a valve stick. Not knowing what the problem was at first we pulled it to his house from there. Got the valve unstuck and took it out and with a mile I had the same problem (so I thought) Got it back home and found that a pushrod had jumped out from the tappet.
When I first had the problem with the stuck valve I adjusted the tappet clearance cold at .020. After I had the pushrod jump out I set them at .017 hot like the manual calls for and I haven't had any problems since.
