I replaced all of mine and think they were something like $25 apiece from IH. In hot weather, it takes about 45 seconds of glow and she'll kick off immediately. In cold weather, the engine needs to be preheated and then count to 90 and she'll start right up. Forget about starting it without a preheat in really cold weather.
My TA is out - an upcoming winter project. The tractor works fine in low, but if you pull it back into high, it free wheels downhill.
The shifter can be an issue. Check to make sure it shifts easily thru all gears. If you have to wiggle the shift lever to get it into gear, it means the shaft is worn. There is a replacement fix (new shaft+) from IH which costs $1000.
For what it's worth, I paid $3500 for mine about 4 years ago.
Good luck, Pittsjock
yours freewheels downhill in hi? it would be normal for a 656 to freewheel downhill in low (lever back) all small frame will coast in low. i have a diesel 656 its nice to run but i wouldn't make one my loader tractor i was going to use every day all winter, just start too hard.
