Sharp eyes there, CT. Other folks have picked up on the floor jack, but you're the first to catch the lockdown pins. Elegantly simple design, isn't it?
I wish I could tell you more about the trailer. It's something my uncle bought for me to haul home a family tractor for restoration. Came out of Central Ohio, from a family-run start-up operaton. Couldn't tell ya if they're still around.
It is a floor jack chassis welded in for a lift.
As for the frame, the front extends far enough back (obviously) to accommodate the springs for mounting the axles.
I'd have to go out and measure (and will in the daylight, if you'd like, lemme know) to measure, but I believe the hinge for the bed is just aft of center between the axles.
It isn't obvious in the picture, but the bed does have a dovetail to it, about 15 feet on the flat, and another 2-1/2 on the dovetail. The dovetail is at about half the angle of what you'd see on a deckover gooseneck.
I've been really happy with the trailer. Hauled cars and tractors on it. Only minor gripe I've had is that when you jack it up enough for the end of the dovetail to hit the ground, the front axle is in the air, so that for a short while all your weight is on one axle. I call it an inconvenience.
