I also don't completely understand the "low ball" on some of these F series tractors.
Try buying one that is restored for under $2000 here in western Pa.
On the other hand, it often depends upon where you are at. I live in Pa, and am currently looking for a 1952 SM, and also an F-30. There are plenty of SM's around, but the prices are scaring me.
On the other hand, there isn't an F-30 to be found in my location. I have found 4-5 of them out west, but I am not necessarily into a 2500 mile round trip with the trailer at this point.
I guess each person has to determine what they are willing to pay for a particular model. If I ever locate my dad's SM, believe me, the current owner will basically be able to name their price.
