Dunno about mechanically, but the Fairway model had steel wheels that were 50% wider than the regular steel wheels, and the Fairway's wheels didn't have lugs on them(they were smooth). That way, people could use it for mowing without tearing up the ground. It's kinda like the concept of "turf tires" today - smooth, so they don't tear your lawn up.
