Don't do it! Vinegar might work on a cast iron tractor carb. But the acid in vinegar will attack the aluminum in a chainsaw carb. Better approach is to soak it in a good quality carb cleaner (Gumout, etc). Or soak the carb in a paint remover or brush cleaner containing methylene chloride. This stuff quickly dissolves varnish but does not harm the aluminum. Just make sure you remove ALL non-metal parts (diaphragms, nylon bushings, etc) before soaking as they will disappear along with the varnish during the soaking process!
