Yes, you have to split it. It's not that big of a deal, as long as you have the right stuff to support the two halves. An engine lift is sufficient for the front end, attached to a chain bolted to the valve cover studs. I used a 55-gallon drum dolly to support the rearend, with necessary wood blocking. Both halves are not that heavy when balanced, just a little cumbersome. If I can do it, you can. My buddy and I had my SC split, replaced the clutch and flywheel ring gear and had it back together in less than two hours.
