Have you checked to know that you are getting oil to the valve rocker arm shaft?? I had this on one of my tractors. Took valve cover off and it did not look like much oil was flowing. The oil gets up there via a hole drilled in the center stud that holds the rocker arm assembly. Make sure that is open and not blocked by being in the wrong position. I took apart and reassembled and the oil flow increased a lot. Also found some crud in the lifter area at no 4 cylinder push rods where it sounded the noise was. You can see down in there with a good light. I cleaned and flushed that out and then blew it out with compressed air. I don't know which action solved the problem, but the noise is gone.
