Went to start dad's old 450 diesel last night. Was going to put 2 new tires on it...finally got the right rims. Thing ran fine on gas...stopped when moving to diesel. Cracked the injector lines...nothing. Opened the filter vents...nothing. Opened the drain cocks...got a little fuel...not real good flow. Ok...fooled with the fuel system a little since I did not have 2 new filters (blew a little air in the drain cocks. Got fair fuel flow. Got a little water out...not much though. Drained the water seperator...looked ok. Got fair fuel flow to the injector pump. Same story. Ran good on gas...no go on the diesel. Had the throttle about 1/3 open. No fuel to the injectors. I figured I would just back it back in place on gas until the weekend. It was getting late. Tightened the fuel lines. Started backing it in, moved 4 feet and it began to smoke really bad...hit the compression lever and it fired off. Ran great. The fuel tank is full, fuel pressure is ok by the gage on the injector pump. No leaks I can see. It has been setting awhile (6 months)...could it have had an air bubble in the system? It sat for over a year after dad died and fired right off first try. Any ideas?
