Where the linkage enters the PTO unit, there's an adjustment for the hydraulic pressure applied to the clutches. A couple times over the years, this has vibrated loose on Dad's 856 and caused it to slip under load. Worked fine up until you really started pouring the ensilage into the blower, then it'd slip and plug the silo pipe. Dad would readjust it, and everything would be fine. This might be the same problem you're having.
