Hank, I suppose the short answer is that the adjustable front wheels provide for 4 positions to accomodate owner perference. The widest adjustment allows operating in muddy conditions, and the narrowest position allows optimum row crop clearance. The position I always liked for general purposes is with the dogs (brackets) positioned on the inside of the rim, and mounted on the inside of the wheel. While that isnt the narrowest position, it makes steering easier than being further out, and minimizes wobble when going down the road in 5th gear. Unless conditions are very muddy, this position will still allow operation without mud build-up.
