I'm gonna get myself into trouble.

I'm working for a guy for a Deere 60 and in a couple weeks I'll have that tractor paid off. The next one he has for me is a 560. My wife raised holy heck when she heard about the 60 but has since settled down. Now I gotta get her all riled up again.

About this 560...

She's been sitting in the shed for about ten years with "engine problems". The guy thinks the bottoms of the pistons broke out. According to the C-IH dealership, this is a common problem with the gassers. I looked around and found a piston kit from Worthington Ag Parts for 110 bucks per cylinder. What I'd prefer to do is get the 282 diesel from them for 1750 bucks. They sold thier last diesel engine last week and I'd hafta wait for another one. I'm sure I'd be happier with a diesel. I was told the 615, 403, 181, and 151 combines had the 282 if they're diesel as well. Anyone have one sitting out in the weeds?

The owner tells me it once was a diesel and the original owner switched it out to gas. Other than needing engine work, the tractor is fairly straight. The sheet metal is in good condition but the paint is poor. I wish it had a quick hitch but it doesn't.

This tractor would just be a bigger version of the 60 in use. I'd use them both for raking, running elevator, hauling loads of hay and corn, etc. on my dad's and father-in-laws farm. Dad had "real" tractors for the real work... 4640, 4430, 4020 :-P Sorry, had to create a little controversy... He also has a 1086 with a 1486 enigne and MFWD.

Anyhow, which way should I go? Gas hog or expensive diesel? How difficult is it to switch out gas for diesel?
