Most people around here converted to 12 volt, because a 6v turns slow, and the tractors are a little worn and a 12v spins faster and makes it start easier. My M was a little slow, rebuilt starter, turns over good, now. Another reason, 12v batterys are cheaper, easier to find, alternators are cheaper than generators, electronic voltage regulators are easier to use and work with, this is some the reasons I have been told.
