Hi, Diesel engines have much more low end torque than gas engines. Therefore you can run then at 1200 RPM and the engine will be producing near max torque but not max hp. My personal opion is that it is easier on the engine and drive trian if you go down one gear and and increase the RPM. If your 574 has TA you have plenty of gears to choose from. If the tractor is being used under load I like to keep the RPM between 1500 & the rate PTO speed RPM which is around 2100 on my brother's 684D. You are correct to operate a loader on this series of tractor you have keep the RPM around 1500 to get good hydraulic flow. My 2 cents JB
