Butch, Looks like people have some strong feelings about MD's!! I completely restored one several years ago and it is now my favorite Farmall. It depends on your intent in restoration. I can say that I spent at least $3000 on the engine including rebuild of the injector pump and injectors. Mine didn't have any cracked head or block, so that was for parts and machine shop costs (block cleaning, head valve work, crank work, etc.). Someone told me that if you can restore an MD you can restore any antique tractor. It is such a unique engine and a real conversation starter at tractor shows. I recently found an old TD-6 trac-tractor in the weeds with the engine stuck. Looks like a real challenge; however, I have experience now with the IH diesel engine so am considering. Roger
