Steve, Just this last weekend I saw a nicely restored IH that had been primed and painted (a nice paint job) over poorly prepared pitted sheetmetal. Needless to say, it did not look good. There is some kind of filler that can be spread real thin on the sheetmetal to fill the rust pits. It is sanded smooth, primed and then block sanded several times and finally top coated. I've seen the transformation and it really looks beautiful. I believe that this is the way to go for a really nice finish. I wish I had all the names of the products used for this, but I've only read about or been told about them and haven't used them personally. I have seen the results, and they are extremely good. The one other thing I'll mention is to use a hardner in your paint. It will make it last longer and more resistant to chips and such. Search the archives for tips, theres a lot of discussion on paint types, preparation and sandblasting. Oh, that reminds me. Remove all dents before sandblasting sheet metal. The sandblasting process shot peens the surface and makes dent removal almost impossible. I recommend that you do not sandblast sheetmetal because of this. Check the link below for a method to remove rust electrically using a battery charger and trisodium phosphate (washing soda, what Tide used to be). Phil
