Starter will hold up fairly well as long as you don't grind and grind and grind on it to get tractor started. When using 12 volt battery you need to just use short little 5 second engagements of starter. The simplest thing to do with coil for 12 volt is to get one of those 12v to 6v reducers to wire in ahead of the coil. Everything else, lights, charging system, ampe guage, and eveythingelse will have to be disconnected or changed to complete the 12 volt conversion. Just simply having partial 12 volt sytem, battery, starter, key and coil, you can run for quite along time with several starts (between 8 and 12 or so) before the battery will need to be recharged. You can do that with a standard battery charger.
