Hey Mark,

I have a smaller (5") rebuilt Nippon Denso alternator that is 1 inch smaller in diameter than the Delco 10SI type. After it is installed you should have enough room to make belt adjustments. I can send you the regulator that came off my tractor as well but you would need to have someone check it with the alternator to be sure that the two would work together. If not, you need a new regulator (they are not very expensive). I was going to put it in my H but decided to go back to the original system. I had the alternator checked at the starter shop last month and it works fine, and looks new. I also have a rebuilt 10SI type alternator (not sure if it's Delco, I bought it from Auto Zone and still have the receipt) along with the bracket that mounts it to the governor cover on the left side of the tractor, I also have a tension adjusting bracket and new belt to go with it. This is an easy conversion and works well, but moves the alternator out from under the hood, probably not the best system if you are storing your tractor outside.

Your probably wondering how I came by all of this stuff. Well, when I bought the tractor it wasn't charging. It came with the 12V conversion using the alternator on the left I describe above. So I bought a "new" rebuilt alternator and belt, but then I decided to move the alternator under the hood - you know so it would be better protected (I do store my tractor outside). But, as noted the fit was so tight that I was afraid that it would be more of a problem than it's worth. Enter alternator #2. I finally found the smaller alternator (a big pain) at a reasonable price from a starter shop in town that was going out of business - all of the parts stores here wanted $100+ for a rebuilt unit. After I got to thinking about it a little more I decided what the heck, I'll just put a 6V system back on it (that has proved expensive since I didn't have any of the original parts), so now I have all of these alternators. Anyway if your interested in either, I'd take $50 and I'll cover shipping.

Today's Featured Article - The 8N and the Fox - by Zane Sherman. Dec. 13 1998, Renfroe, Alabama. Last niht I dreamed about the day that I plowed the field of about 10 acres over on what Jimmy and Dandy called the Ledbetter field. This would have made me to be about16 years old and I drove the tractor for nothing and would have paid to drive it if I had had any money which I didn't, but neit ... [Read Article]
