Welding a bead on a sleeve worked good for me on two engines. I used a 6013 rod that is not a deep penetrating rod. I've used it only on dry sleeves. Make sure what you have before you start though because one time I started in on a bad cylinder to remove the sleeve from a 301. About halfway up the "sleeve" I realized it was a bored block. When it got back from the machine shop it had a sleeve in that cylinder. Why do I never see anyone else tell of their stupid mistakes on this forum?
