Here's to further your education, Gary. The TA on a 966 Model IH is hydraulically operated and if it does freewheel, needs repair. We run both red and green on the farm and have both TA and (gasp) QuadRange transmissions. Deere's Quadrange has a built-in hydraulic shift in each of the four ranges. Difference is one can shift gears on the IH trans without shifting the TA. QuadRange Deere trans shifts through the (TA) when changing speeds or directions. The 4040 Deere air-conditioned cab is nice in hot weather, though. We use JD, IH, AC, and Olivers, no color war here.
