12 volt more reliable is just not true. I have started 4 cylinder gas Farmalls at 40 below 0 and always 6 volt. If you look after any of them 6 or 12 keep your cables and conections clean and in good condition, one is just as reliable as the other. If I were to give the edge to either system it would be 6 volt. I changed one tractor to 12 volt and that the first and last one. I would change it back if it were not for the fact I have an implement with a 12 volt motor. I have one tractor a SA with a 6 volt alternator. I will say yes to alternator, but stick with 6 volt.
