I think the concept was abandoned because the gas-start system relies on a complex system of linkages that need to be kept ajusted, and a very complex cylinder head casting that has many thin spots, which are easy to crack if the engine is shut down improperly. I am not sure on this, but didn't Deere have a few gas-start diesels?
